Our gender identity is at the core of who we are as people.
When you’re confused about our gender, question your gender, or feel that your gender is not consistent with the sex you were assigned at birth, it can cause deep suffering and anguish.
Sometimes you may feel misunderstood, afraid, that you don’t belong, that you’re trapped in a body that isn’t yours, that what you see in the mirror isn’t what you’re supposed to see. You need someone who understands and is safe, with whom you can share our sorrow and pain, who can help you as you walk your gender journey.
We believe that you are the expert in your life.
At Petrichor Counseling, LLC, our sex therapists have years of experience working with transgender and gender non-conforming individuals and couples. Our training and experience is extensive, as is our passion for helping you.
You know what is best for you and your health, not us. We’ll assist you in discerning your path, but our objective is not to stand in the way of your ability to get the medical treatment you need for your transition.
We follow the Standards of Care (version 7) set out by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and can accordingly provide you referral letters for your transition. While we always recommend continued therapy during transition (as transition can be a difficult process), we do not require it in order to give letters.
If you’re seeking only a letter, we will schedule a long session (120 minutes), during which time we will do a standard assessment (similar to the intake assessment for all clients) and go through the informed consent process. We cannot guarantee a letter at that appointment, but our goal is to help you get ready for your transition.
Please note that an extended session for letters is at our regular rate, and all letters are $35 per 15 minutes to write the letter itself (letters typically take approximately 1-2 hours to develop).
